Shirlee
is a professional Speaker, Storyteller, Facilitator, and Consultant.
She
has a host of talents reaching out in all directions like the arms of
an octopus!
Shirlee
can take the energy in a room full of people and make it sing. A
Speaker who is authentic – easy to listen to and sprinkles
humour in her presentations
Shirlee
has been combining story telling and song for over 20 years
An
award winning Toastmaster at regional and national levels with a
Toastmaster’s Trophy Cup named after Shirlee.
Awarded
Employee of the Year 2005, at the Canadian Hearing Society. Recognition
award from Ontario Multifaith Council & Spiritual &
Religious Care
Manager
for Erin Mills Information Centre and Manager of Community Development
in Mississauga. Shirlee
worked with the Canadian Hearing Society (Peel) as a Hearing Care
Counsellor for the past 18 years
She
was a community Food Advisor (Nutrition) with the Region of Peel. Has
been a volunteer Speaker for the United Ways of Peel and Oakville for
many years
Ms.
Smith co-authored a book 13 years ago on “Lipreading
Naturally”, which is still selling in countries around the
world, and has been used in teaching English as a Second Language.
One
of Shirlee’s great joys is providing in-service training for
health, medical, and social workers. Shirlee
is a volunteer who is involved in community development groups for
seniors and multicultural, multifaith groups, and is an active member
of the Baha’i faith.
This
amazing woman has been honoured by the Native community to be called a
Native Elder
She
presents/speaks to all community groups on subjects such as Black
contributions (historical and cultural).
Shirlee talks about the fact that today, the millions of inhabitants of
Canada form a population that is one of the most multicultural in the
world and how we can learn to value diversity in all its
dimensions. Our future depends on our ability to respect and
learn from all aspects of our diverse population.
Shirlee
was born in Toronto and lived in Bermuda for 13 years.
